Tournaments

After a morning of figuring out how strong teams are we’re into pre-Finals and post-Semis! All teams listed in order of seeding in their new pools. Pool A (fighting for 1st): Blue Jays, Liquid, Polkaroo, and Havoc. Pool B (for 5th): The Company, Crisis, Desk Lamp, and Kludge. Pool C (for 9th): Zen, PPF, Jonathan, and Cobras. Pool D (for 13th): TIC, Inferno, and BULLDOGS.

What’s up this weekend? In general it’s fun tournaments all around. There’re intermediate tournaments in France, a tournament in Belgium where it’s only under 18s and those with less with two years of experience, and then here in my neck of the woods: May Day. Yes, a bit of self promotion but it’s a small fun tournament with teams from across Southern Ontario attending. It’s actually two small tournaments in one with a Mixed division and a Junior’s division.

Not even one week in and I’m already wrong! Something didn’t sit right with me about Jack’Suns and a bit of investigative reporting (dusting off my French and actually reading the stats) shows why they deserve their first seed. The top four Open teams in France are: Jack’Suns, Friselis, Ultimate Vibration, and Iznogood. The seeding was determined in the first round which was played at the beginning of April (I don’t know how this slipped my mind as I was in the area and considered watching it live).

It’s here! The website at least. Asian Beach Ultimate Championships are being held in Boracay with the wonderful Dragons playing hosts. The Dragons were amongst the most popular teams at Paganello and I’d love to attend this tournament just to play amongst friends. Speaking of which, I am working on a way to get to the tournament and if I do you’ll get plenty of coverage. Karen (the TD) has also pointed out that the tournament will end on October 31st which means a massive costume party.

It has been pointed out to me that I failed to mention Jack’Suns as favourites to win the title. While Jack’Suns are the number one seed they have been defeated in the Indoor Championships going into the tournament and most everybody seems to be discounting them. We’ll know more shortly as results should filter in soon.
