Sidelines 2012 – 02 – 03

Welcome to this SuperBowl edition of Sidelines! But only because the game is Sunday, I predict a boringly efficient game, and I really don’t care which of Tom or Eli gets another ring. Wouldn’t you rather see Ray Lewis and Patrick Willis headlining this game than possibly the frailest quarterbacks around? Anyways, I digress… This week on Sidelines: U23s! The international scene NYNY v Big Brother The AUDL Tom Crawford

Welcome! To the second Sidelines of 2012, which is shaping up to be quite a year. The AUDL, the NGN, the end of the world, it’s even an election year. (Colbert/Stewart 2012! Hey South Carolina, a vote for Herman Cain is a vote for Colbert, just saying.) Bob was right, the times they are a-changin’.  This week on Sidelines: Ultimate Digg Stanford Bloodthirsty v Cal UGMO The Top 10 The Bottom 10 The NexGen Network!

Sidelines 2012 – 01 – 06

Happy doomsyear! 2012 is upon us, so let’s make the most of it. My new years resolution: go to at least one tournament I’ve never been to. Achievable I think. But enough about me, if there’s one thing I’d like to see achieved this year, it’s filling the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan come August 12. Big goings on in the Ultimate Frisbee world these days, and I mean BIG. This week on Sidelines: Memories of WUCC 2010 Stanford v Alumni, Timbits style The AUDL A look into the Buffalo Hunters’ Combine from Skyd’s Zack Smith The most exciting map in recent history

NGN – NexGen Network

After the fantastic NexGen Tour this past summer many of us wondered what the crew were up to, what were their plans for the new year. I asked Kevin, and the crew, as much in Sarasota and was told that something was in the works. That something has now been announced and it’s the NexGen Network. The NexGen crew plan on continuing bringing us the best video Ultimate coverage possible as well as live broadcasts but they need a bit of help first.

CUC 2011 Part 1 – Coverage

Ultimate players, fans, and supporters have been wondering where they can stay up to date with CUC 2011. Will IAmUltimate be providing coverage much like in previous years? No. This year the CUC Organizing Committee will be taking upon much of the work in live coverage of the finals. Like in past years the tournament website will offer all results and pretty good coverage. There are a few other sources of information that you should be using and here they are:

No Borders 2011 – Pictures by Jon Hines

No Borders 2011 was the site of some really exciting ultimate. The addition of a cash prize lead to some interesting sideline discussions about exactly what a team would need to do to win the coveted 9th place and the $500 prize that comes with it. I played for “Wax Power” an open pickup team made up mostly of men from various Ontario mixed teams. We won all our games in our pool (Fire Bird, Roy and O Town Throw Down) and lost to Red Circus in our crossover. I’m afraid that I was a bit too busy playing the first day to take many pictures but I did come back with a bunch that I was happy with from the second day (image 3 and onwards). I ended up covering 3 PPF games, 2 of them were against the Capitals (playoffs and the final) so PPF and the Capitals are well represented below. I shot straight through the women’s final, images 14 – 22, and the open final between Goat and Phoenix which accounts for images 23 – 32. The following pictures were taken over the course of No Boarders 2011 by Jonathan Hines. Enjoy! Jon
