Delayed Paganello Recaps

Apologies for the delayed coverage; I’ve been working on many things and that’s why I haven’t had time to finish writing up my experience. In the meantime hope you like this image pulled from my visit to Paganello HQ:

World Games 2013 – Cali, Colombia

In the 2013 the World Games will be held in Cali, Colombia. In itself the location is exciting and one question immediately springs to mind: Given the strong Ultimate program in Colombia and strong Open team are we likely to find Open and Women’s divisions at World Games or will it continue to be a single Mixed division? I think I need to ask WFDF the above question.

Weekly updates

It would be rude of me to not update all y’all on going ons in the world. Here are things that I have heard over the last week and have discovered: Rimini is warm…right now. Those of you that are heading to Paganello would be advised to warm at least one piece of gear that’ll keep you warm and dry. My friends here tell me that rain is expected as of Saturday and that there may be a light rain on Thursday evening at the Welcome Party.

Stats? What matters?

Lately I’ve been working on a small stats system for Ultimate (and general sports usage). While I do have plans on where to go with it I’m not sharing it outside of a small group at this time. In building the system (really just hacking it together over the last few days) I’ve learned how tricky it will be to put together a UI that will allow quick entry of all the events that Ultimate players encounter.

Slow days

It’s been a bit slow around here but you can blame that on the Olympics. Ever since I can remember I’ve been watching the Olympics, trying to attend them, and living for the day when possibly Ultimate can be a part of it. There’s a long way to go before Ultimate will be in the Olympics and that’s another conversation. To make up for the slow days though a few quick updates:

Where to play next?

It has been over 1.5 weeks since my knee was dislocated and my MRI results are back. My expectation was that there wasn’t any ACL damage but it appears that it’s slightly stretched. The good news is that a much better brace has been suggested and I’m excited to get it on so I can return to the field. Recovery continues but there was bone bruising and I’ll be taking it easier for the next month with only one tournament and league play where I work on fitness rather than all out winning.

WJUC 2010 site is up

Preliminary registration has started for WJUC 2010 on their website: wjuc2010.deWJUC 2010 will be held in Heilbronn, Germany which is where the WFDF World Ultimate and Guts Championships were held in 2000. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could look back to almost a decade ago and know what it was like back then in the olden days? Luckily we can! The WUGC 2000 site (http://wugc2000.ira.uka.de/en/home.htm) is still up and running with news, results, and final standings.

Journey through Injury

I think I was playing pretty decent defensively tonight; ok on offense as well (but that’s due to MONSTER’s great D). Regardless, within minutes of the game starting I had my target of creating two turns in the first half and was on my way to my target of ten. Just before half a MONSTER player made a great cut and I put too much pressure on my knee. Those of you that know me know what may have happened next…it slipped.
