WFDF WUGC 2012 in Japan!
WFDF have posted that WUGC 2012 will be held in Sakai, Japan on July 7th to 14th!
The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) announced today that it has awarded the 2012 World Ultimate and Guts Championships (WUGC) to the Japan Flying Disc Association (JFDA). This quadrennial event will be hosted in the city of Sakai, Japan, 7 – 14 July 2012.
Upon the recommendation of the Ultimate and Guts Committees, the WFDF Board of Directors approved the bid from the JFDA during their latest meeting, thus returning the World Championships to Japan for the first time since 1992.
“In the face of the adversity faced by the Japanese people due to the unfortunate events earlier this year, our decision to award the WUGC 2012 to Japan is an expression of our support for their recovery efforts and our confidence in the strong spirit and resolve of the Japanese people and Japan Flying Disc players,” commented Robert “Nob” Rauch, WFDF President, upon the signing of the Host City contract. “Japan has submitted a strong bid developed by an experienced team around JFDA President and WFDF Board member Fumio Morooka and Tournament Director Masakazu Honda. WFDF is pleased to be able to return the WUGC to Japan on the 20th anniversary of the first time the event was hosted in Japan, an event in which I personally played”.
Up to five divisions in Ultimate will be played during WUGC 2012: open, women`s, mixed, masters and possibly women`s masters. The Organizers expect a minimum of 60 national Ultimate teams across the various divisions to participate in this prestigious event. The World Guts Championship will also be showcased.
The event will be held on the 18 Ultimate fields of the J-Green Sakai national training center in the city of Sakai (Osaka Prefecture), located some 400km southwest from Tokyo, and 600 km southwest from the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
The Opening and closing ceremonies will be held in the main stadium of J-Green Sakai on 7 July and 14 July 2012 respectively. The main venue can accommodate some 3,500 spectators.

No Borders 2011 – Pictures by Jon Hines
No Borders 2011 was the site of some really exciting ultimate. The addition of a cash prize lead to some interesting sideline discussions about exactly what a team would need to do to win the coveted 9th place and the $500 prize that comes with it. I played for “Wax Power” an open pickup team made up mostly of men from various Ontario mixed teams. We won all our games in our pool (Fire Bird, Roy and O Town Throw Down) and lost to Red Circus in our crossover.
I’m afraid that I was a bit too busy playing the first day to take many pictures but I did come back with a bunch that I was happy with from the second day (image 3 and onwards). I ended up covering 3 PPF games, 2 of them were against the Capitals (playoffs and the final) so PPF and the Capitals are well represented below. I shot straight through the women’s final, images 14 – 22, and the open final between Goat and Phoenix which accounts for images 23 – 32.
The following pictures were taken over the course of No Boarders 2011 by Jonathan Hines.
Enjoy!
Jon
