Brief report: UKU Tour 2 (Open Divisions A + B)
WIth only two weeks to go until Worlds there weren’t a lot of international teams attending the second installment of the UKU Tour. Irelands Dublin Ultimate and the Netherlands Cambo Cakes being the exceptions. (The first weekend of the UK competition included several more international teams; Ragnarok, Silence, Inside Rakete, Karhukopla and MUC. The report can be read here) The first Tour had a bit of a disappointing final as Clapham convincingly won over Chevron Action Flash with a final score of 15-5. Fire of London took 3rd place that weekend and England solidified it’s reputation as the strongest ultimate nation in Europe. How did the second weekend fare?

Northern Flights – Quick Update
Update courtesy of Patrick Mooney:
Dockers squeaked out a close game against a very strong North Bay team in the finals 15-13 after barely getting by a young and skilled (albeit hungover) Sick Mitts in the quarters and monster in the semis. I believe that MUD was the other Semi finals team. Another well run and competitive Flights will hopefully help bring back more teams to one of the oldest and best coed tournaments in the east over the summer. Thanks to Ryan Briggs, Greg Kirton and all the local volunteers for a great weekend.

Chicken Run

Last weekend I went down for my second Poultry related tournament. The drive alone would be enough of a barrier to stop most teams from Canada making their way down but the eight hours, plus an hour at the border and an hour for dinner quickly made into a 10 hour journey. I have crossed the border numerous times but this is the firs time I’ve been asked to go inside and fill out a customs form. What is it about a car full of people that scares border security?

In our world
It’s an exciting weekend coming up for us in this part of Ontario as well as in Europe.
I am heading to Cleveland No-Surf with Too Bad.
A number of friends (Rahil, Marc, and others) are heading to Northern Flights in North Bay. We should get a decent look at what’s going on in Ontario Mixed Ultimate based upon weekend results.
Hilco is off to UK Tour II (where he’ll encounter an Australian team that’s on a European tour as part of their WUCC experience). More details on this when he returns.
A younger group of friends are attending training camp for the Canadian U23 team in Vancouver.

The Windmill Windup
Those of you who have been keeping their ears to the ground will have heard about it. A small event in Amsterdam that grew out to be the biggest grass tournament in Europe. And that, mind you, in only six years time.
