CUC 2010 Masters Preview

The Masters division this season has some new faces, and some reconfigured old ones as everyone tries, futilely, to close the gap on GLUM.

GLUM (Ottawa) is the top seed, and deservedly so with only having suffered one loss in CUC Masters play ever.  However, that loss was in the 2007 gold medal game to determine the Team Canada representative at WUGC 2008 in Vancouver.  I’m sure that loss still eats at GLUM, who will be looking to avenge that loss next year in Ottawa, and become Canada’s WUGC 2012 Masters team.

CUC 2010 Open Preview

A lot of intrigue surrounding the Open division at this year’s CUC; can Phoenix break through and finally told home a championship?  Can Mephisto repeat last year’s performance of getting over the hump, and finally bringing gold to Montreal?  Is this the year General Strike puts it all together?  Just exactly which GOAT players are on Moondoggies, and are they the new Nomads?  Who is this Maverick team that keeps popping up at the top of tournament standings?  All those questions will be answered in the next week, and will produce the best Ultimate Canada will see this year.

CUC Live?

To those that are questioning whether or not there will be a live broadcast please rest assured that there will indeed be a live broadcast.  Details have been worked out with the CUC 2010 organizers (well in advance) and we (CUC 2010 and IAmUltimate) look forward to broadcasting on Sunday.  Details will be available closer to date as we pull together a full plan.

If you’re at CUC 2010 and interested in commentating on the games then you’re welcome to shoot us a line:  live@iamultimate.com indicating your interest, which teams you know quite a bit about, and any pertinent experience you may have.  We have a few announcers already on standby for specific teams and would love to add more to our lineup.  Rahil Suleman will be the lead announcer for most of the day with two others for each game.

Tundra at Mixed Up

Dinesh plays on Tundra and has setup a blog where he’s posted about his experience at Mixed Up:

We left Toronto late at night on the Friday before the tournament hoping to avoid the late rush of traffic exiting the city. I was as yet unsure about my living arrangements in Ottawa, but thanks to the generosity of one of my teammates, I wasn’t left stranded in the nation’s capital. “This is it,” said one of the captains on our drive up to Ottawa. “Our tune-up time for Nationals!”

He was right. Throughout our entire season, regardless of which tournament we were at, our main goal as a team was the qualify for Nationals. We’d done it. Now what?
