CUJO: Day 2 of play
Day 2 for CUJO was a great day – we got to face 2 really good teams in Misfits and Reign (defending national champions).
For the Misfits game, our goal was to win so we shortened our bench considerably; sitting 5 guys. However, the level that those 9 guys had to play at was more than they could handle and, down 8-2 at half, Leah and I switched things back to the 3 lines of guys we had talked about the night before after our first day of games.

Moondoggies – Day 2
A hot and tiring day at Bishops has left me a bit sleepy as I type this update. Our day shouldn’t have been this hard but the first two teams we played were, simply put, awesome.

Lotus – Day 2
Lotus had an easier day two at Nationals. We started the day against Wild Rose a talented team from Calgary. Sonia Komenda, (our cutter who is handling until Sat) and all star captain Kristen (rookie) Laurin gave lotus the start we needed going up 6-0. Lotus maintained their focus and finished the game with a solid 15-1.
The second and final game of the day was against hosts EXO. This team gave us more of a challenge as some points went long…too long. Kate Jardine found her striking game receiving lots of hucks from vets Mon Kerr-Costner and Meredith McNaughten. One of our other Ottawa pick ups, Alison also made some impressive grabs mid field. The final score 15-3. Lotus is getting into the groove and still gearing up for the start of play-offs. We are excited for our four handles to arrive for the weekend festivities.

Newfoundland Liberation Army – Day 1
Peter and I have played together on Too Bad this season as well as on various Mixed teams as we’ve been picked up as a group. He plays both as a handler and a mid-striker. Peter is also a board member for London Ultimate and was the TD for London Calling this past weekend. You can find his update below:
I was lucky enough to pick up with Newfoundland Liberation Army through a friend Pierre-Luc (PL) Bisaillon formerly of Wreckhouse. After meeting my new team on Wednesday night I found out that they were a great bunch of guys and very dedicated to ultimate. However, this national tournament was going to be a huge learning experience for us as roughly half of our team had never played in a tournament before of any kind!

CUJO: Day 1 of Play
First day of competition. 14 guys. 6 girls. Not really sure what to expect. We were slated to face Mofo, RessureXion and X2 and would have to win at least 1 game in order to have a shot at top 8 (our pre tourney goal). Leah and I had CUJO get in a good warmup before the game since we knew that the guys wouldn’t get a ton of play time since we had so many dudes. We had had many talks before nationals about how we wanted to run our lines and decided that because we are a developmental team, we would try to get everyone playing – many of our guys are in grade 10 and have 2 years left after this so we wanted it to be a great experience for them so they keep coming out and will be that much better for the next 2 nationals.

CUC Photos – Day 1
One of my good friends, Lee Gonzalez, has accompanied his girlfriend (Tawnya on PPF) to Sherbrooke (who could blame him, it’s a pretty town) and while here he’s been roped into taking photos for me.
He’s photographed a few games of Mixed, Open, and Women’s from which we’ve selected some photos for you. These photos are also available on Facebook.

ROY – Day 1
JJ Santos has played with many of the Waterloo players for a few years since his teacher introduced Ultimate to him in high school (Scott Kemp on Maverick). JJ and I have played with Too Bad this season and practiced with Maverick. He’s a kid that’s just starting to learn about the game and already playing quite well. After Too Bad failed to make Nationals he picked up with ROY and has been playing quite a bit on their D line. Here’s his day 1:
2 buses, a coach, a subway and an 8 hour car ride later, and I’m in Sherbrooke. With ROY. That’s awesome.
