Just a name
Earlier this week The UPA changed their name to USA Ultimate. There have been questions amongst Canadian players as how the change affects us and to that end I asked Melanie Byrd (Director, Membership and Sport Development) directly:
Does the change in name also mean a change in mandate for Canadian members and Canadian Teams in Club Championship Series?
Melanie replied:
There was no change instituted along with our brand/website change in regards to who can participate at the Club Championships.
So…new site and name change…get back to playing Ultimate.

UPA Easterns
UPA Easterns are approaching fast with Sectionals throughout April; Regionals at the end of April and beginning of May; and Finals on the last weekend of May. Colleges have the best talent in the US and recruitment for a top club team is based in part on how one performed in College.

Paganello 2009 video – Open Finals
As we approach the start of Paganello 2010 and Paganello coverage we look back at Paganello 2009 and the finals for all divisions.
The fourth (and final) video in our series features and epic finals between UTI (Switzerland/UK) vs Los Ox (USA). Without a doubt both teams were amongst the elite when they entered the tournament. Even though Los Ox were considered an “unknown” team they were considered contendors for the 2009 Paga crown. UTI’s return to the finals is no surprise as these former champs are a mix of the best players in Europe (much like Los Ox is a mix of the best players from the USA).
I played both of these teams during round play (and lost to Los Ox by two points) and both of them earned their place in the finals through solid and huge plays, both of which are display in the video below. I hope you enjoy one of my favourite games of 2009.
A big thank you to the organizers of Paganello for providing this video especially Frix, Gege, and Jumpi.
Tom Styles and Steve Giguere of Blockstack.tv as well as Tony Leonardo are commentating for this match.
Big thank you to Jumpi, Frix, Gege, the organizers of Paganello, and the Libera Società del Frisbee for allowing me to post the following from the 2009 Paganello DVD.

Jarring experience…
As I am a frequent reference for rules and SOTG questions every single waking moment of my Ultimate life I found it rather jarring when my Browser Bookmark for the 11th edition rules changed locations. Fortunately a search on the USA Ultimate site shows the new location: http://www.usaultimate.org/resources/officiating/rules/11th_edition_rules.aspx
