O4C Sectional Results

With Ontario Championships/C4UC Ontario Regionals this weekend now seems like a good time to recap the Sectionals results. For the first time in the series Ontario held 4 Sectionals: West , North, East , and South . From those sections, 12 teams earned bids to Ontario Championships.

Read on to find out who made it, and in some cases, how they made it.

_Each section will have a list of teams that participated in order of how they finished. Teams in bold captured a bid for Ontario Championships. Each line will be displayed with the following information:

Final Ranking. Team Name (initial seed – if available) – Final Spirit Ranking_

West Sectionals – 3 bids

  1. Tune Squad – 7
  2. Swift – 3
  3. Puffins – 4
  4. Perturbed Pachyderms – 1 – Spirit Winner
  5. My Nemesis – 4
  6. Ray’s Balls – 6
  7. 3+9 – 2

Playing first on January 6th and 7th the teams saw a tight schedule split across two days in two different locations. The first day was played in Guelph at a facility that routinely hosts an Ultimate league whereas the second day was in Brantford on a very tight field. Both Tune Squad and Swift were coming in as heavy favorites while the 3rd bid was in play for 4 teams.

Puffins played consistently throughout the tournament to secure the final bid with a strong game to go performance. While Perturbed Pachyderms made a late charge on Sunday they went down early in their final game and were unable to bring it closer than two.

North Sectionals – 1 bid

  1. Frankenstein
  2. Samsquanch – Forfeit

While decided without any games being played the bid would have been easily won by North Bay (Frankenstein) over their Sudbury opponents. Samquanch decided against making the drive for a couple of lopsided games and instead reserved their energy for Snowplate (first weekend of March).

East Sectionals – 4 bids

  1. Waitlisted – 6
  2. Dynamite – 2
  3. Six Thirteen – 2
  4. Errant Scoobers – 4
  5. TBD – 4
  6. sQUad – 1 – Spirit Winner

This section saw many close games with many decided by a margin of a couple of points. Waitlisted fended off challengers despite a short roster to comfortably take first. The veteran team of Dynamite had a strong performance to finish 2nd while their expected challengers, Errant Scoobers, fell to fourth against third place finishers Six Thirteen.

South Sectionals – 4 bids

  1. G’s Pot (1) – 6
  2. Fluid (6) – 8
  3. Tetraphobia (2) – 6
  4. YUM (4) – 9
  5. Force (8) – 11
  6. Stranger Things (7) – 9
  7. SGS (5) – 3
  8. Trent Steele (3) – 4
  9. Tupperware Party (9) – 1 – Spirit Winner
  10. TO4O (11) – 12
  11. Monsters (13) – 2
  12. Bubbles (10) – 5
  13. Flicksie Chicks (12) – Disqualified (roster issue)

As anticipated , G’s Pot and Tetraphobia advanced to Ontario Championships. Unexpectedly, Trente Steele dropped out of the top four while Fluid moved into 2nd. YUM also advanced after holding off Force who had moved up from 8th to finish 5th. While Fluid came in seeded 8th they finished 2nd overall with a very strong performance across both days. They also had an opportunity to tie the game up for first but ran out of time while in possession of the disc.
