Lotus – Day 1

Carla Difillipo of Lotus was kind enough to send in the following update on their first day at CUC 2010.

Lotus started the tournament with a game against Qub. The game started exchanging points until we scored a few breaks in a row. Veteran Mal Lundgren was looking for her first game back from ACL surgery and she quickly got back into her groove with big D’s and big hucks. Ottawa cutter Viv Bartlett was showing great speed in the mid field and Sarah Kidd owned  the endzone.

The second game of the day was against Stella. With a full squad (some were at worlds with us) it was going to be a tough game. Lotus went up two

breaks to start the game but gave them back to go into half down one point but starting on Offense. Lotus again got a few breaks and got the lead but their short squad (only 13 players) caught up to them. We made a few errors which put us in universe point on defense. We got the turn but did not capitalize and lost 13-12. Stand outs were Vic Arrandale and Nat Fitzgerald who made some tough grabs in the endzone under tons of pressure.

The last game was against Scarlett. The team worked on the long game (which gave us some trouble during Stella) and pulls.  It’s all worked out now. The focus now is strategy that will get us to the finals!! Most likely how to win a SF game vs Storm!!!
